Being an artist is such a funny thing. To me, art speaks of originality, breaking boundaries, daring to be bold, and doing things differently. And yet artists often feel like there are certain standards, certain so-called “industry rules” they must follow.

When I started releasing music as an independent artist back in 2019, one of those industry rules I thought I HAD to follow was making a music video for every song I released.

That’s just what you do right? You release a single, you film a video.

I spent months putting off the release of “Time” because I was stuck on this idea.

I tried scripting out different concepts… researching videographers… but none of it felt right. And, quite honestly I just couldn’t justify the hefty investment!

Then it hit me… release the song… then do a lyric video using stock footage, similar to another video I did back in 2019 for my song “Stay With Me.” 

The entire theme for “Time” plays with the natural elements and the lyrics are very potent. It’s the first single off my upcoming EP called “Alchemy”, where I play with the natural elements. Each song is associated with the energy of earth, fire, water or air. The natural element associated with Time is “Earth”, which is why I chose the album cover I did. So I decided I wanted to play on this theme a little more with the lyric video!

Enter my genius assistant Dayan who supports me with the coaching and mentoring side of my business… 

I sent her a message shortly after the release of the song that went a little something like this…

“Hey Dayan! So I’ve been thinking about creating a Lyric Video for Time. I want the footage to be of vast natural landscapes that play off the vibe of the album cover and match the lyrics… do you think you could create something like this?” Having worked together for some time, I just KNEW she would be able to match visuals that really reflected and spoke deeply to the lyrics and transformative vibe of the song.

She was totally up for the challenge!

We spent a little bit of time going back and forth researching references and getting down specifics, then off she went into creation mode.

The first draft she sent me only required a few tweaks and edits. I was honestly blown away! I’m so grateful to Dayan for creating the masterpiece that is the Time Official Lyric Video. I honestly couldn’t think of a better visual to accompany this song!
